New Guilty Pleasure: Riviera on Sky Atlantic

2017 seems to be the year of great TV. There’s a whole host of brilliant TV shows on at the moment and my planner is currently packed with TV shows, left right and centre as I dive into each one and feast my eyes on the latest show.

I would say Sky Atlantic’s ‘Riviera’ is my new guilty pleasure but I binged watched it in three days and took in the fabulous drama unlike most drama’s I watch, I just couldn’t stop. The drama starring Ten Things I Hate About You actress Julia Stiles has got everyone talking about it and it’s really not surprising. This intoxicating thriller follows the moral descent of American art dealer Georgina Clios, whose idyllic life is shattered when her billionaire husband is killed in mysterious circumstances. But his death leads Georgina into the shadowy, criminal underworld that lurks beneath dazzling fortunes. I mean it’s just bloody brilliant. Interestingly, it was based on an idea by former U2 manager Paul McGuinness, who turned to TV after retiring from the band in 2003.

It shows a different light into the glamorous world of designer clothes, extravagant parties, ridiculous wealth and art. Who knew this life could be so gritty and dangerous? Not everything is as perfect as it seems. Julia Stiles leads as Georgina, and the cast includes Games of Thrones star Iwan Rheon, Without A Trace actor Anthony LaPaglia, former Grange Hill pupil Dimitri Leonidas and French-Austrian actress Roxanne Duran.

It premiered on Sky Atlantic last Thursday (15th July) and there are 10 episodes in total, or if, like me, you have Sky on Demand you can binge watch it like I did. I can’t obviously tell you what happens, give any form of spoilers away or similar, until you’ve watched it. 😬
