I love Luther.
I love Idris Elba.
He’s brilliant.
The part was written for him.
Really, no other actor could play the character as well as him, which is no surprise really that the casting team couldn’t find an American actor who could compete with the English actor.
If you’ve been on a different planet the last 5 seasons, you’ve really missed out. Luther is about a brilliant, but emotionally impulsive deceive with the Metropolitan police who is tormented by the dark side of humanity while hunting down murderers. Every time he gets to know a killer, it becomes a psychological duel between predator and prey. He’s dedicated to his job, but obsessive, possessed and sometimes violent. His personal battles with his work life pays a heavy price with his personal life as he continues to battles his ongoing demons.
I’m only a few episodes into season 1 and already the whole storyline is slipping through, bringing back memories of each delicious storyline that never failed to deliver in each episode.
I’m having to watching the reruns because of one simple reason, the huge gaps between each season. By Jo there’s only 5 seasons, but since it started in 2010, with series that have either a few or many episodes, it’s easy to forget. Plus there’s been so many great dramas on TV in the last few years, trying to remember the plot, can be a little challenging.
So here’s to rewatching every episode of every season, enjoying it all, slightly perving over Idris in all his gorgeous glory. I haven’t watched season 5 yet, I’ve deliberately not read articles, posts, googled it or searched hashtags on Twitter. I will get there and when I do, I can’t wait to see what all the fuss was about. Besides, that trailer just before Christmas did look good.
