I’ve just caught up, finally, to Luther season 5.
To say I was a little disappointed with it, is an understatement.
Previous seasons have always been so deliciously suspenseful, with a gripping storyline, but season 5, I thought it would be just as good, but for me, it was a little drab.
I know, I know, I’m sorry.
Maybe it was the ongoing storyline with Alice and George Cornelius, I’m not sure, but it just didn’t grip me as much as I wanted it to. The first episode was good. I mean the opening to it was great. It got my blood pumping, the hairs on my arms tingled in suspense like all those seasons before, and I was ready for what was to come. Even with a mostly new cast and having Cold Feet’s Hermione Norris in on the ride, I could wait to feast my eyes on this new season.
But it seemed to go on too long. Maybe that was the problem here. There was a storyline that almost didn’t need to be there. People killed that shouldn’t have got involved in the first place. Alice fell to her death and Luther was arrested. Alice can’t exactly come back from that and seriously, how on Earth is Luther going to talk himself out of this?
According to DigitalSpy, there could be a season six, but the BBC haven’t actually confirmed anything. But if there were to be, how long would the wait be for that? The series creators have an amazing knack of dragging out our need for a new season with a few years in between.
Can’t there just be an episode where Luther has magically retired somewhere, looking his usual smouldering self sipping something strong, being happy? I really can’t see what they could bring to a new season should one were to come out again.
