Isn’t it about time you tap into the sharing Economy?

If you’re not aware of what the sharing economy is, what planet have you been on in the last few years?

In a incredible changing world, the way we use, buy and sell things are very different to that of yesteryear. Rollback 60 years ago, and the assets in a person’s life were very different to what’s needed now. Besides, 60 years ago the way money was earned, the way people were employed, the way life was, the way life was lived was different also.

Now most young adults can’t afford the luxury of owning their own home, either settling for overpriced rent in smaller apartments working in big cities for good jobs or moving home with their parents.

In recent years, we own a lot less than the older generation. But owning less means we somehow have taken a need to share more. As a teenager I had a CD player, a cassette player, a hi-fi system and a computer, all things I now have within one or two devices – my iPad and iPhone. I live in a world where less stuff is the way forward.

Compared to my parents and my grandparents, I don’t have shelves and shelves dedicated to books, magazines and endless CDs in my home. I live in a world where I can fit a large amount of music, reading material, apps, games, movies and so much more on a mobile device and if I like something, I can tell a friend or a large amount of people with just a click of a button.

Now it’s a world of ridesharing, flat/house lending, peer-to-peer lending, reselling, coworking, space lending, the opportunities are endless. All in all the sharing economy is the way forward.

The sharing economy now includes companies including Places to Stay (AirBnB, Beds on Board), Rental Cars (Car & Away, HiyaCar), Pre-Owned Goods (Gumtree, eBay, Fat Llama), Funding (JustGiving, CrowdCube) and Space Rental (StashBee).

Now that the sharing economy is in full swing, people are tapping into ways to earn money from the things in their life, with some even using their own home storage spaces to earn a few extra bob. Sharing economy is on the rise and as per PwC analysis UK’s key sharing economy sectors could deliver £140 billion by 2025. Of course, you can make anything these days if you’ve been on eBay or Gumtree or even rented your home on AirBnB.

Whatever you decide to do to take part in the thriving sharing economy, have a look at some of these great companies taking the world by storm.

Here are my top 10 sharing economy companies you need to get involved with now…

1) Car & Away

Car & Away are a peer to peer car sharing platform who launched at, and in collaboration with, London Gatwick Airport. Airport car parkers (or Owners) buy their ‘rent and earn’ parking product via Gatwick’s official on-line parking website, drive to the airport and park with their own concierge service. They then run a roadworthiness check on their car, clean it and rent it out to carefully vetted incoming passengers (the Renters) who find the cars via both their partners and their our own website. Owners can earn income to off-set their parking costs. Renters avoid the busses, counter queues, up-sells and hidden charges of traditional car rental businesses. When the Renters return the car to Gatwick, they inspect it, clean it and return it the Owner. All Owner and Renter drop-off and pick-ups take place outside the terminal making it the quickest way in and out of the airport – and at great prices.

Their excellent product and service is reflected in their Trustpilot reviews.

Andy Hibbert, Founder of Car & Away says:

We’re all used to, and comfortable with, the sharing economy. Many of us share our homes via Airbnb and some even share their most personal of possessions – pets – via the likes of! So, sharing a car while people go away isn’t such a big step. Especially when owners not only make money out of it, but benefit from dropping the car right next to the terminal and get a professional valet to boot!
