Throughout my 33 years, I’ve had men who have played strong roles in my life. Since my father passed in ’97, my grandad played a huge role, my mum’s partner has done so for the last 6 years and the last 2 & 1/2, Sam, my partner has played his with Emily.
I am so lucky to say the male family figures in my life have played a great part.
Now, with Father’s Day fast approaching this weekend, I wanted to write a post to honour the Father’s in my life.
Today is more for Emily and her daddy, than mine. But, with grandad, Leon and Sam, they all play such a huge part.
It takes a special person to be a great dad. And it needs to be known, I appreciate all of them for their influence in my life and Emily’s.
Thank you for the laughs, giggles and fun.
Dad may no longer be here, but he played an enormous part of my sisters and my life, even though he died when we were so young. Although he’s not here, he’ll always be on my mind and here in spirit.
Leon, my mums partner of 6 years, makes my mum happy, is very close to my family, is one of the family, loves us and is incredibly close to his step-grandchildren.
Grandad, with his love of chocolate, countdown and knack for enjoying a biscuit without thinking my granny knows, has played a huge role in all of our lives, amongst 4 children, 5 grandchild and 4 great-grandchildren.
And Sam, you as my partner and as father to Emily have a strong part in my life, in our lives. You are the fun one. You bring the smile to Emily’s face that sometimes I can’t. It takes a special kind of person to be a dad. You read stories, don’t mind being the climbing frame as Emily scales your back, play hide and seek, cuddle her when she’s in need of a daddy hug and have swung Emily around in that damn washing basket much to the amusement of her, again and again and again!
When Emily was born, you stayed with me for 5 days before going back to work. Although Emily awanted me in the beginning, you know she wanted her daddy too. You go through days when you come home and are worn out from work, yet will chase Emily around the sofa and house, filling the air with the cutest of giggles.
I love you for the wonderful things you do for our little family. You are a wonderful father and partner.
You love your family and I love you for that and more.
