Did everyone have a good Christmas? Ours was a little quiet. Whilst most dealt with hyperactive children and stuffing their faces with turkey, our Christmas was filled with something very different. Our poor little baby was sick. From Christmas Eve right through till 2 days ago, Emily fought a bout of vomit and tummy trouble and it seemed endless for her tired little body. What originally was a tummy bug, grew into a bit of an intolerance for milk as that was the only thing she seemed to be bringing up. She just wasn’t herself and it was really horrible to witness. She was tired, disoriented, barely interested in food and really sleepy.
By Christmas Day I called 111. Dodgy tummy, vomit or any illness is not what you want to see in your child, whatever age, and with her inability to tell us what was wrong, why it hurt and why, it was very difficult to diagnose. Thank God for the NHS’ out-of-hours medical line. 24/7 365 days of the year, these medical advisors and professionals are there to help, guide and support you with your ailment whatever the query. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care. Calls are free from landlines and mobiles and they give the best service and advice they can offer so you can get the medical help you need.
Thankfully, the lovely lady, the medical advisor asked a lot of questions, understanding each step of the way what was wrong with Emily and passed me on quickly to a medical professional who took over the call and said it seemed like a tummy bug and home management was the best option, in this case, doing everything in Emily’s pace. Emily was sick for a few days and thankfully is back to her normal happy self. She has now found a bigger appetite for food, probably making up for the lack of formula and food beforehand, even at one point taking a huge interest in soya milk which now seems to be the staple go-to milk for her porridge in the morning. I suppose with Emily being so young, missing out on it being a proper Christmas wasn’t terrible, but next year we’re looking forward to her being so excited for Christmas. Fingers crossed she won’t be sick.
